The mission of American Legion Post 171 is to serve veterans, their families, and the Damascus community by honoring service, promoting patriotism, and supporting programs that strengthen our nation.

At Post 171, our mission is lived every day through meaningful service, strong community involvement, and a continued commitment to the values of the American Legion.

We proudly carry out our mission by:

• Supporting veterans and their families through outreach, advocacy, and fellowship
• Promoting patriotism, civic responsibility, and respect for our nation’s history
• Engaging youth through education, scholarships, and leadership programs
• Serving the Damascus community through volunteerism and charitable efforts
• Honoring and preserving the legacy of those who served before us

American Legion Post 171 operates in accordance with the mission and principles of The American Legion. We strife to advance the American Legion’s Four Pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. We are proud members of the approximately 135 Legion Posts in the state of Maryland.
